Latest News 5th XI Final The 5th XI produced a heroic display in their final against the Civil Service in which they were unfortunate to lose 2-1. It was a great day out enjoyed by everyone. To view images of the day please go the the Gallery Presentation Night As the season is drawing to a close the details for the Legendary Presentation night have been confirmed.
Venue: Bushey Country Club, High Street, Bushey Tickets: £35 from captains or committee members No tickets available on the door The night promises to be a great evening so please come along with your loved ones to share in the clubs success. If your are interest in coming along please let your Captain or a member of the committee know as soon as possible. AGM The AGM is to be held on Saturday 26th April 2008 - venue still to be decided. The AGM is arguably the most important event for the club as it is the main opportunity for the club to outline in which direction it is heading for the forth coming season. It is also when the Captains and committee members are voted in for the 2008/09 season. If you feel that you would like to be a Captain or a member of the committee for the coming season the club strongly urges you to attend. Tour - Zagreb The details for tour have now been finalised. With 32 members looking to attend this year it promises to be another great tour. For those who are attending could they please contact either Phil Welsh or Eddie Dempsey about the payment of their outstanding amounts. Website The Salvos website has been out of action for a couple of months now, this is due to the fact that the site is being re-built and the person who runs it is useless. Once the new site is up and running it will give the club the opportunity for many members to up-load information onto the site. So if you have some ideas for the website please let a member of the committee know.
Peter Snell has taken some time out to give his thoughts on how he thinks the club is going... Hi All I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd share a few observations of our first few weeks of the season. Off the Field As most of you know we have moved to a new Clubhouse at LNER in Maybank Avenue , and generally this has gone well. We've had a couple of teething problems, as we expected, but last Saturday went very well socially and we had the benefit of a newly decorated hall. We should be grateful to those members who came to the Clubhouse in the close season to help spruce the place up, and also to Dave and Graham Chick for their work. The biggest thanks must go to Paul Jordan who has done many things at the ground, not least installing 3 floodlights for training ( which is every Wednesday evening at 7.00pm )! We have a young new Committee and we are hopeful that they are able to drive forward all the changes we need, to get Salvos back to its former glories, but, we are on the way. Social events will be announced in the near future, but of course we would love to see all Salvos old and new at the Club on Saturdays. All available Premier League games are shown on big screens. We will arrange a few re-union afternoons, maybe on a Vets match day? All playing members are reminded and encouraged to return to the Club after playing. This is how we build our Salvos spirit and you build friendships, so even if for a few minutes we expect everybody back. On the Field This year we are picking the teams through a Selection Committee and so far it is proving successful. It should provide fairness throughout the teams and take some pressure from the Captains. From this weekend we will be selecting from Club members who are paid-up and available. If you haven't paid please contact your Captain or you may not be playing this weekend . Similarly captains should be aware that their options are limited if their star players are not members! This system will also apply to players who find themselves in arrears with subs and fines payments. The club cannot afford to subsidise players. Simon Millar has volunteered to run our "youth " team this year, based on Tony and Bob's successful formula of recent years. We are delighted at their successful start. Please encourage any 16+ players to contact him. Our results have been mixed, mainly due to our lack of fitness, but also some players letting captains down on the day of the match .IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. You let down your whole team and in 99% cases is unforgivable. We need to show some sense of commitment and allow captains to pick reliable team mates. We do need to show more commitment to training as well. We are still not fully supporting our captains. Too often I see players slinking off without helping with the nets. You are lazy, selfish gits. If everybody helps it only takes a moment. Also, bring your subs with you and pay the captain without him having to chase you. You know you have niceness in you.so please help your skipper. Finally, our attitude and behaviour towards referees stinks! Without these guys you do not get to play on Saturday, and in my observations they have always performed better than the players who criticise them!! So when you've just missed the ball for the umpteenth time look to improve your own performance..or take up refereeing! Also it really would be nice to see us admitting a throw was not ours rather than claiming or disputing every event. It is a game!!!!! Having said that it is lovely to note that there are many moments of sporting behaviour which is uplifting for the soul. Generally, I really do have an overwhelming sense that we are progressing to our former healthy, lovely football club of which we should be so proud. Thanks to all of you who are working with us to make Old Salvos a real force again, both on and off the pitch. If you feel you would like to help in any way, or would like to offer constructive suggestions please contact me or Eddy Dempsey Kind Regards Peter 25.03.07 Old Salvo Guestbook The Old Salvo Guestbook is now back up and running again so please feel free to post any comments about the club that you wish to make.
