| 6th XI Match Reports - Paul Jordan 6th XI Match Reports - Paul Jordan Date: 28th October 2007 Opponents: Brent 3's Home/Away : Home (but played at Boston Manor) For (salvo)/Against : 2-0 Competition : League Scorers : Martin Masterson, Mickey Ivers Man of the match: Martin Masterson Dick of the Day: Steve With 4 home games already scheduled the 6's were forced to play an their home fixture away at the delightful Boston Manor against Brent 3rds. The KO was delayed for about half an hour due the late arrival of our oppo. Straight from KO we took control of the game and could have scored from our first attack. Steve (still drunk) Forde shot from outside the box and Mickey just failed to get on the end of it. We soon went 1 up when Martin M found himself with space on the wing and his shot (cross) sailed over their keepers head into the net. We could/should have had a few more by halftime but had to settle for going in at the break 1 up. To be honest Brent were not the best team we will play this season but fair play to them as they never gave up and had a few half chances to get back into the game, but it was Salvos who wrapped up the points with the final kick of the game. Good work by Martin M forced their centre half into a mistake and the ball fell to Mickey who calmly slotted past the advancing keeper. 3 points in the bag but a tough looking trip to Meads next week which will require a better performance all round. Team - Paul Cummings, Tom Walsh, James Kavnagh, Liam Jennings, Brian Wynn (Barney Jennings 45mins), Andy Bradshaw, Steve Forde, Steve McManus, Mickey Ivers, Martin Masterson, Phil Welsh.
Date: Team: 6th Opponents: Kolsassians Reserves Home/Away: Home For (salvo)/Against: 3-2 Competition: League Scorers: Hugh Innis, Mickey Ivers, Leo Harrington Man of the match: Steve McManus After two away defeats Salvos 6's had a much welcomed home game against a very youthful Kolsassians Reserves at LNER. With a 1pm KO things were not going to plan as at 12.50pm there was still no sign of our Manager or more importantly our kit! The game finally kicked off and Salvos were under immediate pressure from our younger oppo. Our defence managed to last for 10 minutes before their first goal came. This seemed to kick start the 6's into action and we had a fair share of the play but could not manage to score. We went in at the break 1 down but felt we were very much in the game. We started the 2nd half well and finally got the break through on 14 minutes, good attacking play by Gary Stanley saw the ball played into the area and Hugh Innis Cooley dispatched into the net. There was now a buzz in the team which saw us play some nice football and after 20 minutes we were rewarded with our second goal. A long punt up field by James Kavnagh saw Mickey Ivers 30 yards from goal, the ball bounced and he flicked it over the defenders head and then lobbed the keeper (much to the disappointment of the home fans & players!). A great goal which would have been worthy of winning any match but we allowed Kolsassians a life line when a mix up at the back gave their forward a chance and he duly finished. With the game looking likely to end all square we made one final push for a winner and it came with 2 minutes left, Good work again by Gary saw his through ball split the defence and left Leo Harrington to stroke the ball home for the winner. To sum up, it was a first half to forget but a second half to savour! Steve McManus was awarded MOM for his tireless running for 90 minutes
