Old Salvos

Old Salvatorians switched places at the top of the table with Sinjuns after a hard fought 2-0 victory. In an evenly contested first half, Salvos were lucky when Sinjuns had a penalty disallowed after a player entered the box before the kick had been taken. This was despite clear instructions not to beforehand by the referee. Salvos fortune continued near the end of the first half when the oppo's captain was sent off for foul and abusive language.

Against a resilient 10 men in the second half, Salvos had to remain patient and this paid off in the last quarter with a headed goal by Liam Fitzgerald from an excellent Savo cross and then Greame Chick pounced to get a second in the last few minutes. This is likely to prove to be an important 3 points come the end of the season against one of the serious title challengers.

''After a reasonably poor pre season preparation we embarked on a new season trying to right the wrongs of last year and what a blazing start it turned to be!!

We started brightly and after some good passing DOBSON struck the ball from a full 30 yards to beat the flailing keeper to give us a well deserved lead. Southgate offered some resistance in small spells but we doubled our tally just before half time when some good wide play resulted in the ball falling at the feet of RYAN who slotted home easily.

The second half proved to be even more successful with the next goal always being essential. Thankfully CHICK broke the offside trap beat his defender and slotted in our third. CHICK scored again shortly after due to some confusion amongst the Southgate defenders. The emphatic victory was finished off with a Hat trick opening season and a man of the match performance when chick finished off after some neat play from Ryan. All in all a very good team performance showing our intentions for the season''
