5th Team match report
29/10/11 League Div 4 North
Salvos V
Old Parmiterians Lost 1-0 Salvos hosted, league leaders Old Parms on Saturday on a very sunny but blowy Saturday afternoon. A couple of tweaks to the line up, saw Cummins return in goal from injury and Eddie McG make his seasonal bow at CB. The game started lively enough with both teams sizing each other up. It was easy to see how Parms have been scoring for fun, they have two very lively front men who get around the pitch well. However Salvos defence had them well shackled. With Cummins only being troubled by JOS’s headed back passes!! The best chance fell to Salvos midway through the half when Jack whipped in free kick was met by Dan and had the keeper beaten all ends up only for Eddie McG to slide in to make sure, but somehow he managed to scoop it over the bar!!. Then 5 minutes later their keeper made the first of his two excellent saves where he managed to beat away a curling shot which has heading in. The half finished scoreless. The second half started with Parms making the brighter start playing down the hill. The pressure however was being absorbed well. Salvos youthful midfield, were breaking well and felt there was a result to be had. The Parms keeper pulled off the save of the match with a dipping shot heading for the top corner and he needed every inch of his frame to tip it over. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of us to be fair and gave Parms an added spark. Parms began to take hold of the game and were seeing more of the ball than they should have. They were rewarded for their pressure when after a succession of corners and throw ins saw the ball break and Parms react 1st and slot the ball home. Parms were happy to sit back and see what we had and we nearly got the goal we deserved when Eddie McG rose and his bullet headed just whistled by the post. The game fizzled out and Parms took the spoils. In short, 1) We deserved a point but we didn’t take our chance they did 2) We lost our way slightly in the 2nd and were waiting for things to happen when we needed to dig in. Not a criticism, just you have to earn a right to play football, we put the groundwork in the first half and played some very decent stuff. Second half we didn’t do that for long enough. 3) Again we played very well at times and the improvement is there. Parms were a decent outfit and we acquitted ourselves excellently at times. Cup next week boys, let’s get back to winning ways. Cummins, Irvine A ( Davitt) McGillicuddy E, JOS , Durnian ( Cooney) Mulwe ( Irivine C) Irwin, Scully, McCall, McMahon, Dominique http://oldparmiteriansfc.co.uk/fixtures-and-results/match-report/?MatchID=233 |
